This is in GA, right? It's a liability for a shop to modify (or delete) any sort of pollution control device on a car. Lots of muffler shops will show you the door if you ever bring up deleting cats, or even adding a "high-flow" one. I think the 100k mile thing is just an excuse, but maybe that's some sort of loophole that the muffler shop guys know about. Who knows?
